A Letter received from our Sponsor RAMESES ASSOCIATES LIMITED 23/4/2004
Sometime
ago I was asked if I would lend my support to the Newport High School Old Boys under 12s and support them wherever possible.
As somebody who was brought up in Staffordshire, where Rugby was commonly known as a town in Warwickshire and not a ball game,
it was something which as a child at school I can never remember playing the game, hence my complete and utter naivety of
the rules of the game.
When the
opportunity arose where I was able to see the boys practice and tread across the fields with mud up to the knee caps, did
I realise how much effort, dedication and commitment was being expressed for those playing the game. It also became
very clear that the coaching staff were enthusiastic and dedicated as much as the boys, and I left that day feeling proud
that I was able to lend my support. This was no more emphasised than in 2003, I was asked to see the boys play somewhere
in Worcestershire. Again, that was a terribly miserable, cold day and instead of the mud being up to my ankles, it was
up to the axles of my car. I watched the boys play and whilst they did not win the game, the enthusiasm by everybody,
from the parents, players and coaching staff was a real credit and to take it further, we all went into the club house where
we had a light meal and I was presented with a little red dragon by the team and they all thanked me together and individually
after.
Moving
on, that with commitments with work I have not been able to see the boys play this year, however, I have been kept informed
of the progress and was pleased to note the result of the Cleve Tournament played on 18 April. My congratulations go
to the boys and the coaches for this achievement. I have promised to be there on 2 May to see them play on their tour
match and win or lose, you have my support.
Kind Regards
Brian
