NHSOB V Cwmbran - 18th November 2007

This game was a real chance for the boys to show how far they have come this season after facing Cwmbran 1st game of the season and losing 52-0.  The Old Boys came firing out of the blocks and competed well with their very strong opponents, pinning them down in their 22 for long periods, and finally taking a 3-0 lead through a Mitchell Williams penalty.  Following this territory started to shift and following some strong Old Boys defence Cwmbran finally managed to brak through the NHSOB wall and score the 1st try of the game which went unconverted, leaving the score at 5-3 to Cwmbran.  The closing minutes to the 1st half were evenly contested with the only other score coming from the boot of Mitchell Williams on the stroke of half time to leave the score at 6-5 to NHSOB at half time; a score i don't think anyone was expecting.  The 2nd half started in the same vain that the 1st on finished, with both teams matching each other in defence and attack.  It was unbelievable to think that a few mobths ago Cwmbran put 52 points past this Old Boys team which would now not give them an inch.  The intensity, passion and oace continued right up to about ten minutes to go when it seemed the Old Biys may have just ran out of steam as they gave away three quick tries; which turned a 6-5 lead into a 24-6 defecit, however, the boys rallied once more and layed siege to the Cwmbran try line one last time, and were extremely unlucky to not put a try on the board just before time.  This was easily the best performance of the season; and if the boys can continue to increse their performance to the calibre that they did today, we will be able to compete with anyone in the area by the end of the season, if not sooner.
